We have all had our moments where we just rush through something or try something else because it’s faster, for example “buying a cake instead of baking a cake”. In “Stop the Clock” by Amy Wu this is exactly what she talks about, taking the easy way out and saving time doing so. In Amy Wu’s Article she addresses the teenagers and young adults because she feels that they are taking the easy way out or the short route. For example the author states, “We’re computer-savvy, and we have more time. But what are we really saving it for? In the end, we may lose more than we’ve gained by forgetting the important things in life.” As a teen reading this I know exactly what she is talking about because I will always buy the pre-made cookies and my mom will always make them from scratch.
This article had a lot of strengths and some weaknesses, the weaknesses would be that she stated a lot more things that can save you time instead of things you need to cherish. If she thinks we may lose more than we gain then the author should give more examples on spending time for good and important things in life. The author possessed many strengths. She used the three appeals extremely well and showed both sides of the argument, that way the reader can get a view on each side and then be on a side in the end, and be able to argue what they think is better and why.
The author had many uses of the appeals in the article. To start the paper Wu uses logos because she stated facts in order to tell about her aunt and how her house is always spotless and always clean. When she writes about how we save time doing things like getting “takeout” the author displays examples so she is consistently using logos throughout the paper. The author not only uses logos well but demonstrates many pathos. For example Wu stats that “a nearby store sold throwaway underwear”, it save time because you don’t have to do laundry. The author is using humor to display the drastic measures we go through just to save time. Ethos wanted used as much as the other two but Amy Wu writes at the very end “In the end, we may lose more than we’ve gained by forgetting the important things in life.” The author supports her morals and feeling here because she like thinks we should give more time to the important events and people that we care about, this shows she is a family person.
This is a great article for the young adults in college and high school, the author a lot of things that are fact and logical to make you realize the things people do to save time and to get you to things about the things you skip over instead of cherishing because you wanted to save time. This style of writing works because it starts to make you think about the things you do to make life easier and faster. Where she really starts to persuade you that saving time is not as important cherishing it is at the end when she explains how she makes a dinner for her family, and that even though it took her awhile to make, spending time on the important things is better than taking the short route and saving time.

A3 etymology

Sweet – has more than one meaning since I have been around. The word originated back in the old English time, spelled differently but meaning the same thing “swete” the English word that means to “pleasing to your senses”. Today this word means “pleasing to the senses” but it also has other meanings. In this day of age if somebody were to say sweet they could be talking about a number of things. First of all they could be talking about a food that is sweet like the old definition was. People could also mean by saying sweet that a person is nice and caring so they use sweet to demonstrate that. Another thing would be if somebody said “man that’s sweet” they are referring to that cool or awesome. Sometimes the word sweet can pop up with your sense of smell for example if somebody smelled sugar they might say that smells sweet because they are putting the taste with the smell and getting an end result of sweet. Over time the word has transformed into multiple meanings. Back in the earlier years they had only one meaning and that was it. As where today if you were to say sweet it could mean a number of things.
Topic Proposal
My topic for the research project is going to be on oil and how long we have till it peaks or if it already peaked. I don’t know much about oil, and I realize that this is a big topic with the world because we rely on oil so much. I hope to gain as much information as I can to be able to choose a side and have knowledge about the topic. I would like to find through research if we still have time with oil and don’t need to worry about it, or if we need to start worrying about the life span of oil and start to look for another alternative.

This article is about oil peaking within the years. The article interviews professional experts about the oil peak topic. The topic on oil has peaked professionals say we either need to slow down the consumption of oil or we need to hurry up and find alternative energy because we are at the peak and oil is going to be gone before we know it. On the other side the professionals say that oil has not yet peaked because there are still some fields where there is some oil that the world can consume for a couple more years, after that then we can start to freak out about the peak oil but now it’s not worth it.
This article will be useful in writing my research paper because it shows both sides of the argument and that really helps me out. Plus the information on both topics is written by experts so it’s legit information.

This article is about how production of oil has peaked already in the world. The writer demonstrates this by telling the reader how some oil fields have already peaked. For example he talked about Texas a lot and he said that the U.S got most of their oil from the Texas fields but now there is almost no more oil left in the fields. The writer also brought up Dr. M. King Hubbert, and Dr. Hubbert said that the world would peak its oil production in the late 2006 year. He showed this by a bell graph. The writer went on saying that oil fields all over the world have started peaking if they already haven’t peaked.
This is a good article because it shows only one side of the argument and it gives example of why oil has peaked. It also gives the expert that said the world would peak in 2006 six and the graphs of why oil production is the way it is.

This article is basically the opposite of the one above. In this article there is an expert that says all oil fields aren’t running out they are just slowing down production because they can do that and obtain more money for each barrel. Also he brings up M. King Hubbert and says that he said we will peak by 2006 but he also said that Hubbert didn’t know how much oil was left on the earth so he was wrong because the world has found more oil than he calculated for. Bailey said that there are more reserve oil fields than everyone calculates for so peak oil is really out of the question.
This article will help me to write the paper because it gives me the other side of the argument. This article is written by an expert and he basically gave the information in the exact same order as the above article and he told you why he was wrong and the factors he left out in his argument. So it gives me a ton of useful information.

This article is basically about peak oil and why we don’t need to freak out about the oil production because we aren’t close to empty. It says that we have said we were going to peak before but they were wrong about that and that’s the same thing this time. Also this time is different says some experts but Smil says they are all full of it. Smil also stated that in the past we gave a date where we would peak and that not today so why is there a reason for early peak now if our production hasn’t went up. Basically he says the experts that think we have peaked are wrong and he explains why.
This is a good article because I need more info on the other side of the argument. Also it goes against the experts that think oil has peaked but it gives the reasons why we haven’t peaked. And why those experts don’t need to be worrying people today.

This article is about how the world resources are running out in every category. Lomborg stats that since the population of the world is going up the less and less oil there is. Since there are more people in the world today the oil consumption rate is up. He also gives ways to save oil and gas. Also he demonstrates the things we should do in order to make the life of oil live longer.
This article is good for my paper because it shows the side from a different perspective. He tells that oil is running out and he says why they are running out.

Waters Claim
I Thought Water made her claim in the first paragraph of the paper: “In public schools these days, children all too often are neither learning to eat well nor to exercise.” I thought that it was a well stated claim because it made me ask questions like why she feels that way and how she came to think that. To write what Waters Claim was in my own words I would say:
These days Public schools are doing a poor job on educating kids how to eat and exercise well.
Waters Grounds
There was a ton of supporting evidence for Waters claim in her essay.

· Her first piece of supporting evidence is when she says “fifty years ago, we had a preview of today’s crisis. So we did something about it.
o Specific examples: built gymnasiums, tracks, and playgrounds
o Specific examples: hired and trained teachers, and made physical education a part of the curriculum.

· She has experience teaching children about food.

o She helped establish a gardening and cooking project at a public school.
o At the school today over 1,000 children are involved in growing, preparing, and sharing of fresh food.

Waters does seem to be a very credible source she is a owner of a prestigious café and she is known worldwide for her cooking. She also started a high school program that educated kids on healthy food and education on food. All this said I’m sure she knows a lot about a healthy eating habit.

Rebuttal of Waters Claim, Grounds, and Warrant
Is Waters suggesting that we as Americans have no sense of what healthy or eating healthy is! I think that her side is a little to broad, because not all Americans are the same and some are healthy. She only provides facts that support her position, and she doesn’t say anything about the other millions of Americans who do know how to be healthy and eat healthy. She goes on to say that we need to start a revolution which seemed like it wasn’t needed because of all the Americans who do the healthy things. She could have said the unhealthy eaters need to start a revolution which would have been a little better.
