Watkins talks about how gun control is described today and the issues with it. She discusses the types of roles the media and politics play with the issue, as well as the examples of both sides of the issue. She also shows how gun control at one time was used to control the government and not harm people. She continues on how the media tends to cause more of the gun issues than are needed with the hype that the government may take the guns away. Later in the article she touches on the harm the guns are causing, as well as statistics about gun control.

LaFollette really seemed to connect with me the most. While she thought that it is the Americans right to own guns, she also see’s the governments side on the issue. She really goes into detail on how no one person should be either for or against control and that it is basically impossible to pick one side. She really opens up both sides and rips each sides apart showing how both are wrong, but right at the same time. She helps connect to the issue by showing her personal opinion and stating important facts and statistics to look at when deciding on which side to choose.

Samuel takes a completely different view and stand point on gun control than I have ever heard of before. Samuel attacks Americans themselves for abusing gun control. He also attacks other authors for even taking sides with people who don’t believe there should be gun control. He views people using gun control as a way to corrupt the government and a way of insurance. When in turn he sees gun control as a privilege and not a right. Something we should have to earn and not just get.\

Smith also takes a new stand on gun control. Instead of letting his personal opinion influence him too much, he uses facts and news to show the effects of gun control. He dives deeply into the media, and the stories shared around the country about gun abuse and how gun control can prevent this. He also speaks about how youth is becoming more and more of the cause for gun abuse. As well as the public opinion on gun control. While showing the statistics as well.

Rice tackles gun control from the stand point that it has always existed. We as Americans should stop trying to think of ways to control guns and put an end to gangsters and their violence with guns. He points out that we need start focusing our efforts on the violence of gun control and stop arguing about whether its needed or not. He believes that we will never reach an agreement with gun control and that we should tackle the violence as a whole, and get the guns out of gangs and children’s hands!

Kleck gives great background detail, and statistical information about gun control. He does not believe in just listening to the media, or when people publish. He actually went out and found facts and information. He also points out both view points with no-bias. He was one of the few who also took the time to actually get the true view point straight from the NRA and how they felt about the issue of gun control. He urges us to go out and find information and research on our own, and stop letting the media influence our choice.






Research Topic
I would like to do my research paper on a medical field. I would like to write on why I should chose one medical profession over another. Through this research I will be able to see which field has more positions open, more of a better pay, or even which field requires less school. I also hope to find which area I feel I would best fit into.
Over all I hope that this research will further confirm that I want to join the medical field, and that I know what specific area in the medical field I would like to join and complete school for, especially medical school. The research may also help me declare my major in the next year or so and possibly even show me that, the field I was looking at - isn't the best option for me.

I think I would like to narrow the subject down to just the differences between becoming a pediatrican vs. a general physician.

Shane -- I think you need to revisit the instructions for papers 3 and 4 as well as the handout on choosing an appropriate topic. This topic is not debatable. Perhaps it is personally, but your topic has to be one that is being debated in the public, professional, and/or academic arenas. -- Leah

Life.
Life has the meaning of everlasting continuance, to keep on living and moving forward. Some religious communities believe that the word life simply means god. Life categorizes things – such as people, objects, and food – into living and non-living. Some scientist may even say it is how we tell what has intelligence and can function, and what cannot. Life comes from the origin live.
Life in the beginning focused more around the human race living, and surviving here on earth. It meant to reproduce, populate, or to continue the population and evolve. In a sense life seemed to be quite straight forward as either, you were alive and trying to survive; or you were dead and consumed or used by the living like water or sand. Life later began to morph into biological life. As humans began to evolve, life was viewed as organisms becoming morphological, adaptive, and part of evolution. Humans became able to study the smallest form of life – bacteria – and then break the life form down into cells (the basic unit of life), and so forth.
Today, many teens and newer generations understand that there is a meaning of life as the biological formation for the earth and humans; but that isn’t how we define life. More and more teens are describing life as our everyday routine. Even as our everyday problems, issues, and concerns which we are all faced with. Many of my friends have even stopped thinking as life as how we were created, or how this earth was formed. Life is being morphed into an expanded definition of what we do, who we are, and what is to come. Life brings many different things to mind for many people, but generally people see life as: family, school, work, and everyday objects. Personally, I see life as death. Isn’t life what causes us to not only to exist, but in a sense does it not kill us as well? Is stress not one of the leading causes for attackacardia or heart attacks? And do people not view stress as everyday life? These are all things that go around and around my head whenever I think of life. Life can be spread in so many different ways now, that it really is hard to say what life is.
